If you grew up in the ‘90s, then you are familiar with the female R&B quartet, #Xscape. The ladies, Kandi Burruss, LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, and Tameka “Tiny” Harris, stood out among the other groups that were out at the time, thanks to their beautiful vocals that combined to create an intoxicating harmony. The ladies combined femininity with a touch of masculinity to create a presence that was unlike anything we’ve seen before.
Although they had three albums that went platinum and singles that were instant hits, you would think they would be around for a long time. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that way. The ladies may have created the group together when they were children, they are no longer friends. The Scott sisters still perform Xscape songs, although LaTocha says they are not Xscape.
The television biopic, #Unsung, which can be found on TVOne, details the circumstances behind the groups falling out. As a result of the narrative of the episode, Kandi and Tiny used Twitter to express their views about how they were portrayed in the show.
Kandi wasn’t very pleased but still said:
“I have to admit I wasn’t all too happy with the Xscape UNsung but all of our fans made it the #1 most viewed episode ever in 8 seasons of the show. Wow! Thanks for showing us so much love! It’s amazing to me that after all these years you guys still support us. ???? Thank you!!!”
While Tiny said:
“This was amazing to know & on my bday that we were the highest ratings in 8 seasons! It feels so good to still have real fans that love our music & our group Xscape… Feeling so good on this Bday! & Thx for all my bday S/O & wishes! I love yall.”
So you may be wondering what happened?
According to LaTocha, when Tamika got pregnant, she was propositioned to either abort her baby and stay in the group or be replaced. That is when LaTocha said if they replace her sister, they would have to replace her as well because she (Tamika) was not going to have an abortion.
Today, you can find Kandi and Tiny on reality television while LaTocha and Tamika are still focusing on their music.
LaTocha is releasing an album that her fans can get for free. Fans can find Tamika acting in some of Tyler Perry’s movies, which she helped write.
